K-9 Scent Work

Your dog can be the best smelling dog in the neighborhood!

K9 Scent Work/Nosework is the newest urban detection-style canine sport designed for all dogs to enjoy. This class is great for any dog with a nose. No prior obedience training or athletic skills are required. It is a great way for any dog to have fun, build confidence, and burn physical and mental energy. Using some of the same methods used by trainers of official detection dogs, companion dogs will learn to explore with their noses and locate target scents. Owner observation and handling skills will be developed during practice searches. Fun K9 Scent Work is open to dogs of all shapes and sizes. Your dog just needs a nose and a parent to drive him to class.

Progressive Levels offered along with preparation for K9 scent work competition in AKC and NACSW

Level 1

This introductory class teaches your dog how to play the game. Dogs will learn to search boxes and find their first odor – birch. Handlers will learn the basics of scent work and training their dog. This class begins inside and the dogs are steadily progressed through more challenging adventure.

Level 2

More fun with your dog’s sniffer! This course will introduce your dog to exterior and vehicle searches while you build your handling skills to assist their success. We’ll begin to increase search difficulty while building your dog’s confidence to search.

Level 3

This course enhances the skills learned in the previous courses and includes more complex searches and distractions. We work on scent work puzzles and introduce new odors (anise and clove) and all trial environments-interior searches, containers, exterior searches and vehicles. Students from this class will be eligible to join Sniff and Go meet ups offered in a variety of locations.

Canine Nose Games

Nose work is a great activity for your dog to learn new things, boost their confidence and give them a job. Our nose works Games Class is designed to take your beginner nose work skills to the next level. You will get individual coaching while working through different games each week. These games focus on various elements of AKC and NACSW nose work competition. Pre Requisite: Team has completed Scent class 1 & 2 or equivalent (proficient on birch).
